Splashtop on Windows computer name update

There are three options:

• 1. Rename it manually on the managed computer using splashtop client:

• 2. Rename it remotely using Splashtop Business:

• 3. Rename it using registry key delete:
  you can delete the key using remote management or by editing the registry on the remote machine directly using regedit by
  deleting this key and restarting the computer:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server\CloudComputerName

Change “This PC” using group policy

 It is possible to rename “This PC” using group policy:

add registry entry under: User Configuration/ Preferences/ Windows Settings/ Registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

• 

Using %COMPUTERNAME% will change it to the actual domain computer name.

Firefox 59 disable hardware acceleration

 For some reason Firefox 59 on windows 10 (1709) under parallels started to misbehave and displayed address bar text and background all black.

On some pages the page was inverted with blocks of black and some flickering was noticeable as well.

After some frustration and lots of trial and error I disabled hardware acceleration when available option under Firefox preferences which did the trick.

Windows 10 gray-scale

Windows 10 has option to display everything in gray-scale.

It can be switched on and off by keyboard combination of CTRL + WIN + C key

It is possible to activate it accidentally if you have keyboard with CTRL and Windows key right next to each other since CRTL + C is to copy.

Hope this helps someone else who ends up in the gray-scale world of windows 10.

Switch to AHCI mode in windows 10 with BitLocker enabled

 

1. click on start and type manage BitLocker and launch it. (requires administrative user)
2. click on Turn off BitLocker (wait on the decryption to finish – it is indicated in the system tray)
3. reboot your computer to make sure BitLocker is disabled.
4. Right-click the Windows Start Menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
5. Enter: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
6. Reboot the computer in to the BIOS  (F2,Del,ESC,F12 or other key depending on the computer manufacturer).
7. Look for SATA operation mode and change it to AHCI and save + reboot computer. (F10 key etc.)
8. windows should start up in safemode.
9. Right-click the Windows Start Menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
10. Enter: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot
11. reboot computer and windows should start up normally again.
12. click on start and type manage BitLocker and launch it. (requires administrative user)
13. click on Turn ON BitLocker you will be required to reboot computer.
14. after reboot wait on the encryption to finish – it is indicated in the system tray
